Celebrate Pride with us!

With lockdown rules still in place we sadly can’t celebrate Pride in the way we are used to. However, just because we are limited in where we can go and who we can see doesn’t mean that we can’t still show our support for the LGBTQ+ community.

It is important during Pride month to remember how far we have come to be able to celebrate Pride in the way that we do and how many people dedicated so much of their lives in the fight for equality. Pride began as a protest only 50 years ago at Stonewall and has come a long way in that short time.

There are a lot of lessons that can be learnt from the Gay Rights movement that are particularly applicable today as we find ourselves fighting for justice and equality in the Black Lives Matter Movement. One of the biggest advocates for the Stonewall Uprising was Marsha P. Johnson. She was one of many black trans women who were a huge catalyst for the Gay Rights Movement. So when you are celebrating Pride this year remember the black activists who paved the way for you to enjoy this month in peace.

For the second year running we are supporting our chosen LGBTQ+ charity The Albert Kennedy Trust. The AKT supports LGBTQ+ youth in the UK who suffer from homelessness or live in hostile environments. This year we are running an online Pride themed class to raise money for the charity and would greatly appreciate any donations you can offer.
